What does the Community, Children and Families Stream do?

The Community, Children and Families Stream handles appeals or reviews of decisions from certain government agencies or statutory authorities.

When the Tribunal receives an application, it will follow a process of determining the application which includes:

• Notifying relevant people about the application
• Providing directions about preparing for a hearing
• Listing the application for a hearing
• Conducting the hearing and making a decision.

This website provides information about:

• The different types of applications that the Community, Children and Families Stream can receive.
• How someone can make the applications.
• The things people need to do if they are part of the proceedings; and
• How the application will be determined.
• Where you can get assistance and advice
• What you can do if you disagree with a decision of the Tribunal

We can help with matters in relation to:

• The Tribunal has created a Table of Types of Applications for the Community Children & Families Stream that sets out the legislation which allows an application to be made to the Tribunal. There are five Acts that give the Tribunal power to receive applications about some decisions made under those Acts.

We cannot help with:

• The Tribunal does not have the power to receive applications about any decisions that might relate to children or families or the community generally.
• It is important to look at the Table of Types of Applications produced by the Tribunal to check if you can bring an application to the Tribunal about a decision.
