Occupational & Disciplinary Stream
The Occupational and Disciplinary Stream hears appeals or reviews from disciplinary bodies across many professions. The types of applications and reviews that can be made to the Tribunal in this stream are set out in the Table of Types of Applications.
It can also handle referrals from these bodies. A referral happens when a body decides to send a matter to the Tribunal instead of making the decision itself.
When the Tribunal receives an application, it will follow a process of determining the application which includes:
- notifying relevant people about the application
- providing directions about preparing for a hearing
- listing the application for a hearing
- conducting the hearing and making a decision.
This website provides information about:
- the different types of applications and referrals that the Occupational and Disciplinary Stream can receive.
- how someone can make the applications or referrals.
- the things people need to do if they are part of the proceedings; and
- how the application will be determined.
- Where you can get assistance and advice
- What you can do if you disagree with a decision of the Tribunal
We can help with matters in relation to:
- Proceedings in this Stream relate to decisions about licencing, registration and disciplinary actions about occupations and professions.
- The Fact Sheet for this Stream has a complete list of all the different Acts that allow applications or referrals to be made to the Tribunal.
We cannot help with:
- The Tribunal does not have the power to deal with all licencing, registration or disciplinary matters. It can only receive applications in relation to the Acts that allow those applications to be made.
Health Practitioner matters
On 1 July 2025, amendments to the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act 2020 took effect which abolished the Health Practitioners Stream and moved proceedings under the Health Practitioners Tribunal Act 2010 and the Health Practitioners Regulation National Law (Tasmania) Act 2010 to the Occupational and Disciplinary Stream. A dedicated page with content related to Health Practitioners proceedings has been retained to help parties in the transition to the new legislative arrangements.
Property Agents Tribunal transfer to TASCAT
Please note – the transfer of the Property Agents Tribunal to TASCAT does not change the process that existed before amalgamation.
A person must first have made a complaint to the Property Agents Board under Part 7 of the Property Agents and Land Transactions Act 2016.
You cannot bring an initial complaint about the conduct of a property agent directly to TASCAT.
The TASCAT can only hear an appeal in relation to a decision of the Property Agent Board or a referral that is made to TASCAT by the Property Agent Board.
