Interpreters at TASCAT

The Tribunal has completed a new suite of protocols in the use of interpreters in proceedings.

The protocols are derived from the Recommended National Standards for Working with Interpreters in Courts and Tribunals (2nd edition) published by the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity.

The Tribunal has produced a fact sheet and interpreter request form.

These are important reforms for the Tribunal to improve our services given the Tribunal engaged interpreter services 39 times in 2022-2023 which was a 63% increase on the previous year.

Tribunal members attended a training day on 22 March 2024 which included training on the engagement and interaction with interpreters in hearings.
